Biporjoy cyclone makes landfall in Rajasthan, causing widespread damage
A severe cyclonic storm, Biporjoy, made landfall in Rajasthan on Friday evening, bringing heavy rains and strong winds. The cyclone has caused widespread damage to property and crops.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier warned that the cyclone could cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and parts of Madhya Pradesh. The IMD had also issued a red alert for several districts in Rajasthan.
The cyclone made landfall in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan at around 6 pm on Friday. The cyclone has since weakened into a deep depression, but it is still causing heavy rains and strong winds in Rajasthan.
The heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in several parts of Rajasthan. The flooding has also caused damage to roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
The strong winds have uprooted trees and damaged power lines. The power outages have affected several parts of Rajasthan.
The government has deployed teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to help with relief and rescue operations.
The government has also announced a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh for each person who has died in the cyclone.
