A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable opened fire on a moving train in Maharashtra on Monday, killing his senior and three other passengers. The constable, identified as Chetan Kumar Choudhary, was on duty when he allegedly got into an argument with his senior, Assistant Sub-Inspector Tika Ram Meena. The argument escalated, and Choudhary opened fire, killing Meena and three other passengers. Choudhary was later arrested.
The incident took place on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra. The train was about to reach Mira Road station when Choudhary opened fire. The victims were identified as Meena, 50, passenger Suresh Kumar Sharma, 45, passenger Suresh Kumar Gupta, 40, and passenger Mukesh Kumar, 35.
Choudhary was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and RPF officials. He is being questioned by the police. The motive for the shooting is not yet known.
The incident has caused shock and outrage in India. The government has condemned the shooting and promised to take action against the perpetrators. The railways have also announced that they will review security measures on trains.
This is the second time in recent months that an RPF constable has opened fire on a train. In May, an RPF constable in Uttar Pradesh opened fire on a train, killing two passengers. The constable was later arrested.
