Naved Rana, a native of Shamli in Uttar Pradesh, and Salim, a resident of Kandhla in Rana, are the two criminals who have been detained. Both have a history of prior significant criminal offences. Naved Rana, a native of Shamli, was detained during a raid in the Narela neighbourhood on January 13 as a result of a tip. Naved was found to be in possession of 19 firearms and three cartridges. After investigating this, the police conducted a raid in the Kairana neighbourhood of Kandhla on January 20 and detained Salim, a maker of illicit weapons.
During interrogation of Salim, it was found that he had opened a factory to manufacture illegal weapons in his sugarcane field in the village itself. Police raided the factory, from where 10 pistols, a gun and a large quantity of illegal weapon making equipment were recovered.
