India reports more than 6,000 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, with active infections surpassing 28,000 mark

According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry on Friday, India witnessed another surge in COVID-19 cases with 6,050 new infections reported in the past 24 hours. This rise in cases follows the previous day’s count of 5,300 cases, marking a consecutive increase in infections.

As a result of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, India’s active caseload has now increased to 28,303, which is an alarming rise of nearly 2,716 cases.

In response to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya is reportedly scheduled to conduct a review meeting with the health ministers of all states and Union Territories today, as per news agency ANI. This meeting is expected to address the concerning rise in cases and formulate strategies to combat the spread of the virus.

According to the news agency’s report, MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar stated that the Central government has been regularly issuing guidelines to all the States and Union Territories regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also reviewed the situation with all the states. Today, Union Health Minister Dr. Mandaviya will hold a review meeting with the health ministers of all States and UTs to further discuss the guidelines and strategies for tackling the current surge in cases.

As per scientists, the current surge in COVID-19 cases in India is being attributed to the XBB.1.16 variant of the virus. However, they also mentioned that people in India have developed hybrid immunity as a result of both vaccination and natural infection, which means that hospitalization rates are not expected to be very high due to the current variants of the virus. Nonetheless, the Indian government has advised citizens to wear masks in crowded places and to ensure they complete their vaccination doses if they haven’t already done so, as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the virus.

As per the latest bulletin from INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics), the newly identified recombinant coronavirus variant, XBB.1.16, has been detected in various regions across India and accounts for 38.2% of infections detected till date. This variant has been closely monitored by health authorities in India and globally, and more research is being conducted to determine its potential impact on the course of the pandemic.

The Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Shelly Oberoi, has reassured the public that the MCD is fully prepared to handle any COVID-related situation in Delhi. She stated that all MCD hospitals have the necessary facilities, including reserved beds and oxygen cylinders, to treat COVID-19 patients. Additionally, the hospitals are equipped to conduct RT-PCR and antigen tests for diagnosis. Meanwhile, in Sikkim, the state government has issued an advisory urging people to wear face masks in public places due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the state and across the country. This advisory is in line with the government’s efforts to encourage the public to take necessary precautions and prevent the spread of the virus.

Delhi Assembly Committee Suggests Free Education for EWS Students up to Class 12

0
SCHOOLS EWS EDUATION

New Delhi: The Delhi Assembly’s Committee on Welfare of SC/STs has proposed that students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) studying in private schools receive free education up to Class 12. The recommendation was made during a meeting chaired by Karol Bagh MLA Vishesh Ravi on Saturday. If implemented, the proposal would help EWS students access quality education without any financial burden. The committee has requested the education department to take necessary action and ensure that the proposal is implemented effectively. This move is likely to have a positive impact on the education of underprivileged students in Delhi.

The Committee on Welfare of SC/STs in the Delhi Assembly has pointed out that the Right to Education (RTE) act provides for free and compulsory education for all children between the ages of six and 14. However, this only covers students up to Class 8, leaving many students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Disadvantaged Groups (DG) struggling to afford education beyond that level. The committee’s recommendation for free education up to Class 12 for EWS students studying in private schools is aimed at addressing this issue and ensuring that students from marginalized backgrounds have access to quality education.

According to the Committee on Welfare of SC/STs, the Education department of Delhi should extend the benefits of free education up to Class 12 to all economically weaker section (EWS/DG) students studying in private schools. The committee made this recommendation based on the observation that many EWS/DG students are unable to pay for education beyond Class 8, and the Right to Education (RTE) act only covers students up to that level. By providing free education up to Class 12, the committee hopes to ensure that EWS/DG students have equal access to education and opportunities for a brighter future.

During the meeting, the SC/ST welfare panel noted that providing free education to students from economically weaker sections (EWS) would reduce the risk of dropouts and ensure that all students have access to education, regardless of their socio-economic background.

Karol Bagh MLA Vishesh Ravi, who chaired the meeting, emphasized the importance of education in building a progressive and equitable society. He stated that the committee’s recommendation for free education up to Class 12 for EWS students in private schools would help thousands of students in Delhi access education without any financial burden. The proposal aims to ensure that all children have equal opportunities to pursue their academic goals and contribute to society.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that some private schools, which have received land from government agencies, already provide free education up to Class 12 to children from economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups (DG).
