Lok Sabha commemorates victims of 2001 parliamentary attack

Lok Sabha on Tuesday paid rousing tributes to those who gave their lives to stop a terrorist attack on Parliament 21 years ago. As soon as the House convened, Speaker of the House Om Birla said it was a sad day for the country as terrorists carried out a vicious attack on Parliament.

He said the entire country supports the families of those killed in the terrorist attacks and that the country is firmly against any form of terrorism.


Members of the house also stood in silence for some time in remembrance of the victims.
On December 13, 2001, terrorists attacked the Houses of Parliament and opened fire, killing nine people. Victims of the attack included five Delhi police officers, one Central Reserve Police (CRPF) policewoman, two parliamentary guards, a station worker and a gardener. The injured journalist later died. All five terrorists were shot dead.
