Date:

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2023. The preliminary exam will be held on October 10, 2023.

The CSE is one of the most competitive exams in India, with lakhs of candidates appearing for it every year. The exam is conducted in three phases: the preliminary exam, the main exam, and the interview.

The preliminary exam is a screening test, which is of objective type. It consists of two papers: General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II. Each paper is of 200 marks, and the total duration of the exam is 2 hours 30 minutes.

The syllabus for the preliminary exam covers a wide range of topics, including Indian Polity and Governance, Indian Economy, History, Geography, Science and Technology, and Current Affairs.

The cut-off for the preliminary exam is usually around 120-130 marks. Candidates who score above the cut-off will be eligible to appear for the main exam.

The main exam is a more comprehensive exam, which is of written and interview type. It consists of nine papers:

  • Paper I: General Studies I
  • Paper II: General Studies II
  • Paper III: General Studies III
  • Paper IV: General Studies IV
  • Paper V: Essay
  • Paper VI: Optional Subject I
  • Paper VII: Optional Subject II
  • Paper VIII: Optional Subject III
  • Paper IX: Interview

The syllabus for the main exam is even more comprehensive than the preliminary exam, and it covers a wide range of topics, including Economics, History, Geography, Polity, Science and Technology, and Current Affairs.

The interview is a personality test, which is conducted by a panel of experts. The interview is used to assess the candidate’s personality, communication skills, and suitability for a career in the civil services.

The final selection of candidates is based on their performance in the preliminary exam, the main exam, and the interview.

The UPSC CSE is a challenging exam, but it is also a rewarding one. The civil services offer a great opportunity to serve the nation and make a difference in the lives of people.
